PART I
A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO REMEMBER
THE WORLD’S GREATEST MOM

Wednesday is Veterans Day…the day we honor the USA’s many military veterans. It began as Armistice Day in memory of November 11, 1918, when World War I ended.  It’s been called Veterans Day since 1954.

But November 11, 1918 was also a “Beautiful Day” for me…because it’s the day a special lady in my life was born. Seven years ago this past weekend, Casey Kasem read a Long Distance Dedication about that special lady when she would’ve turned 90…Written under my middle name of Theron, here is that LDD in its entirety…

Dear Casey,

This week marks what would’ve been my mom’s birthday. She lived a GOOD life, being born on November 11th, 1918, the day World War I ended.

It was such a momentous day (that) her parents almost named her Victoria….but she would become Louise, my mother. There’s so many things I’ll never forget, like the day I received my bachelor’s degree. Just before I got it, mom reminded me (that) she wasn’t able to attend college like I did..and couldn’t earn such a degree. But, at her funeral, in 2000 in my eulogy, I pointed out that she wasn’t entirely correct about that….because in everyday life, she earned a Master’s degree and a Doctorate…in motherhood.

Whether it was scouts, band concerts or horse shows, Mom was always there for me and my two brothers and my sister. And, when it came to birthdays, every year she would make sure I would get a freshly baked birthday cake no matter where I was. Out of the state…or out of the country.

Simply put, she was the most caring and influential woman I’ve ever met. I only wish everyone could have a mother like mine. Casey, as you could imagine, I could go on and on, but I’d rather honor this special lady by dedicating “Beautiful Day” to the greatest mom of them all.

Thank you so much,
Theron
